Rep. Tulsi Gabbard Message for VERGE Hawaii Clean Energy Summit

Below is a transcript of Rep. Tulsi Gabbard's message for the 2017 VERGE Hawaii Clean Energy Summit:

Everyone attending this conference is a leader with the opportunity to help take Hawaii and the many communities you represent toward a more sustainable, clean energy future. The knowledge and skills you bring to this summit can help us achieve our mandate of 100% renewable energy by 2045, and in so doing, provide a great example to help our country achieve the clean energy future that we need and deserve.

I encourage you to engage and talk story with the more than 100 speakers who are there to share their knowledge and ideas with all of you. I also encourage you to engage with each other to develop the bold actions that are required to meet our current energy needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

Whichever of the seven dynamic tracks you choose over the next few days, your participation can help us achieve Hawaii’s clean energy goals and begin to tackle our long-term sustainability objectives here at home and around the world. Climate change is a reality we're already experiencing. From the weird weather patterns, to sea level rise, and increasing acidification, our world has been impacted by our poor energy choices from the past.

Today, I am encouraged by your commitment to take action and do something about it. Whether you are focused on helping develop distributed energy systems, grid scale power, building efficiency, or decarbonizing transportation, I challenge you to find ways to ensure access to environmentally sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy for all. And in so doing, I know that together, we can foster innovation that helps meet the United Nations' goals of building resilient infrastructure and industry to promote inclusive and sustainable cities and communities in Hawaii, across our great nation, and around the world.

Mahalo for choosing to be here in Honolulu for this great summit and for dedicating your time and resources to this great challenge. Aloha.
