Rep. Tulsi Gabbard on Facebook: Do Not Cut Medicaid Payments for Hospitals Serving Our Most Vulnerable

October 3, 2017
Press Release

"Last week, I sent a letter with more than 220 of my fellow colleagues to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi expressing concern for the impending cuts to Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments. The letter urged a two-year delay for these harmful cuts as these payments support hospitals that serve our most vulnerable communities, including low-income, COFA migrant workers, and uninsured patients. If these cuts go into effect, Hawai‘i will lose approximately 10% of its DSH funding, putting our people at serious risk. Congress must act quickly to delay these cuts to prevent hospitals from being forced to close their doors, leaving thousands of people in Hawai‘i and across our country without healthcare."
