Press Release
Washington, DC – U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) today joined her colleagues on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific in holding a hearing on the political situation in Bangladesh, and the alarming increase in attacks against religious minorities, including Hindus and Buddhists. She released the following statement:
“I am particularly concerned about the attacks and persecution of the minority Hindu and Buddhist communities in Bangladesh, and the implications this has on religious freedom in the region.  All too often, crimes against these communities go unpunished, and it is up to the Government of Bangladesh to act authoritatively against those who incite and commit violence to protect the rights of minorities. This is an essential step toward ensuring the safety and basic rights of all of Bangladesh’s citizens, regardless of their faith.”
