Congresswoman Continues to Highlight Educational, Economic Opportunities in Hawai‘i

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) today announced her public Hawai‘i meetings next week on O‘ahu, Hawai‘i Island and Kaua‘i. She will continue to meet with local organizations that are promoting educational and economic opportunities for Hawaii’s keiki and families.


Monday, August 26: O‘ahu, Hawai‘i Island


9:00 a.m.: Deliver remarks to the Honolulu-Pacific Federal Executive Board Diversity Council “Women’s Equality Day” LEAD (Learning with Excellence Alignment & Diversity) Seminar.

            Where: Ford Island Conference Center, Pearl Harbor

Hawai‘i Island:

12:00 p.m.: Deliver remarks and present congratulatory certificates to Kealakehe High School robotics students for their success in the 2013 International MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) Center Underwater Robotics Competition. The team won the Safety Conscious Award for exhibiting exemplary safety practices.

12:45 p.m.: Tour Kealakehe High School

           Where: Kealakehe High School, 74-5000 Puohulihuli St, Kailua-Kona

3:30 p.m.: Tour and receive a demonstration at the Hawaii Preparatory Academy Energy Lab. The lab is dedicated to the study of renewable energy and the environmental education of the next generation of students.

Tuesday, August 27: Kaua‘i

9:15 a.m.: Live, in-studio interview with Ron Wiley. Listen at KONG FM 93.5 or

            Where: KONG Studios, Lihue

10:45 a.m.: Meeting with Commander Garron Morris, USN Executive Officer, and Rear Admiral Richard Williams, Commander, Navy Region Hawaii Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF). The congresswoman will receive updates and a briefing on PMRF’s three-year plan and a briefing on AEGIS missile defense.

            Where: PMRF, Barking Sands Airport, Kekaha

            Note: This meeting is not open to press, but media availability after the visit may be scheduled upon request.

12:15 p.m.: Visit Ke Kula Ni‘ihau ‘O Kekaha Schools to get an update on the school’s needs and priorities, and also discuss the direct impact of the congresswoman’s legislation to reauthorize the Native Hawaiian Education Act.

3:30 p.m.: Visit Kaua‘i Community College to learn about the school’s satellite partnerships with PMRF and job training opportunities.

Friday, August 30: O‘ahu

9:45 a.m.: Formally present the Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star with Valor to SGT Robert Cox.

            Where: 25th Infantry Division Memorial, Schofield Barracks

11:30 a.m.: Meeting to learn about Tripler Army Medical Center’s community- and school-based behavioral health care for the children of servicemembers.

            Where: Wahiawa Elementary School, 1402 Glen Ave, Wahiawa

3:00 p.m.: Meeting with statewide healthcare providers at the Healthcare Association of Hawai‘i to learn about long-term care, home health, and hospice care in Hawai‘i.

            Where: Healthcare Association of Hawai‘i, 707 Richards St., Penthouse 2

4:30 p.m.: Present congratulatory certificate to Eleanor Cowell, a local elementary school student who was honored in July at the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama in a nationwide recipe contest called the “Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.” Eleanor was one of only 54 children honored among the more than 1,300 contest entries.
