Rep. Tulsi Gabbard Announces $1.3 Million Grant to Support Maui Family Support Services’ Early Head Start Program

Honolulu – Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ award of a $1.3 million grant to Maui Family Support Services supporting their Early Head Start Program.  The private, non-profit agency has served Maui County for thirty-four years.

“I met with the organization’s leadership and staff on Maui last year and remain exceedingly impressed with the services they provide to so many keiki on a shoestring budget,” said Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.  “With this funding going toward the Early Head Start Program, more keiki and families will benefit from the invaluable services they offer to the community.”

The Early Head Start Program on Maui provides early, continuous, intensive, and comprehensive services to pregnant women, very young children, and their families. The home-based program offers weekly home visits and twice monthly group activities. Parental services prepare expectant mothers, promote healthy pregnancies, and provide post-partum care for the parent and child. The center-based child development program readies children for preschool; caregivers work closely with families as a support resource. The center-based program offers services for full-day and full-year to income-eligible families at low or no-cost, and children with disabilities are welcome.
