PHOTOS & VIDEO: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard Tours Army ROTC Facility at UH Mānoa, Mentors Cadets
Honolulu, HI—At dawn this morning, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) met with Lieutenant Colonel Kate Conkey, Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadre, and more than one hundred cadets enrolled in the college-based officer training program. She toured the Warrior Battalion facility on the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa campus, spoke with the cadets about her service in the Hawaiʻi Army National Guard and in Congress, servant-leadership, and the Army Values, and answered a series of questions from the soon-to-be graduates and Army officers.

Background
The Warrior Battalion is the only ROTC unit to ever be called to federal service—on December 7, 1941 cadets were made part of the Hawaiʻi Territorial Guard and assisted in guarding vital facilities on the island of Oʻahu, serving for a seven-week period. There are currently 132 Army cadets in the program, and eighteen of them are combat veterans. Since its inception, fourteen cadets and two cadre members from the Warrior Battalion have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service:
