Honolulu, HI—This morning in Kailua, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) presented an Honorary Certificate on behalf of Congress to Ka'elepulu Elementary at a schoolwide assembly for being the only school in Congressional District 2 to earn the distinguished title of “2015 Blue Ribbon School” by the U.S. Department of Education for their overall academic excellence.
“Congratulations to Principal Jamie Dela Cruz and the educators, faculty, students, and parents of Kaʻelepulu Elementary upon being named a 2015 Blue Ribbon School,” said Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. “Your excellence in education has been known throughout the community, but today, your accomplishments are being affirmed by recognition on the national stage. Mahalo to everyone at Ka'elepulu Elementary for your work to educate the future leaders of Hawai'i.”
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students either achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap. At the invitation of Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, representatives from each of the 335 schools awarded this year will be formally recognized on November 9 and 10 in Washington, DC. At the ceremony, each school will be presented with an award plaque and a flag as symbols of their accomplishments.
