Washington, DC—Today, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) joined hundreds at the Old Town Alexandria Waterfront Park to welcome the Hōkūle’a as it came down the Potomac River to Washington, DC. The congresswoman toured the Hōkūle’a, welcomed the crew and all those present for the arrival ceremony, and enjoyed music and dance presented by local hālaus and the Piscataway Conoy Tribe of Maryland.
Honolulu, HI—This evening, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) hosted an interactive “Telephone Town Hall” meeting with residents of Hawaii's Second Congressional District to discuss dengue fever, Zika, and other mosquito borne illnesses. Expert guests Chief Darryl Oliveira from Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense and State Epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Park were featured on the call to share important updates with listeners and respond to their live questions and concerns.
Washington, DC– Today, Hawaii’s Congressional Delegation announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $20,000,000 grant to the University of Hawaii System for a clean water research project. The project, titled Ike Wai from the Hawaiian words for knowledge and water, will address the critical needs of the state to maintain its supply of clean water, most of which comes from groundwater sources.
