Until recently, neighbor island residents requiring biometric technology for things like immigration assistance had to travel to Honolulu. In addition to taking time off of work and school, and paying USCIS processing fees, neighbor island residents had to also personally pay for the cost of air transportation to and from Honolulu, hotel costs, and other travel expenses.
