SBA Releases the Latest EIDL and PPP Numbers
As of August 8, the Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved 5,212,128 Paycheck Protection Program loans totaling $525,012,201,124 nationwide. For Hawai‘i, 25,097 small businesses were approved for PPP loans totaling $2,478,864,703.
As of August 8, the SBA has approved 3,353,064 Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) totaling $178,071,047,155 nationwide. In Hawai‘i 17,391 small businesses were approved for these loans totaling $940,401,299.
HHS Invests in Diagnostic Labs to Expand COVID-19 Testing Capacity in the United States
Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced combined investments of $6.5 million in two commercial diagnostic laboratories to expand capacity to conduct up to 4 million additional SARS-CoV-2 tests per month. The investments will provide critical laboratory equipment and increase staffing and infrastructure to allow the U.S. to perform an additional 1 million tests each week by early October.
COVID-19 Hawai‘i News & Resources
Testing in Hawai‘i — Since yesterday, there were a total of 355 new cases and 2 additional COVID-19 related deaths. There are currently 2,573 active cases in the state.
To date, there are 4,312 individuals in Hawai‘i who have tested positive for COVID-19. Of these cases:
40 have died
267 required hospitalization
1,716 have been released from isolation
There have been 194,351 diagnostic tests conducted as of today.

Kaua‘i Salvation Army ARC monthly donation event set for Aug. 28 — The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) will be accepting donations for its monthly donation event on Friday, Aug. 28, at the Kaua‘i Resource Center (KRC) located at 3460 Ahukini Road in Līhu‘e, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents, businesses, and other organizations can bring in unwanted or unneeded items including clothing, small furniture, children’s toys, books, and shoes. Customers are requested to maintain social distancing, wear a mask, and follow all directions from ARC and county staff while on site. Learn more here.
